It's a sad day… as we mourn the death of Gordon Lightfoot.
His musical and poetic legacy is a rich tapestry, and indeed, it is woven into the very fabric of our lives. Thank you, Mr Lightfoot, for your lifetime of musical service. I had the privilege, with my partner Robin Easton, of assisting Gord to and from the stage, and ensuring his comfort and privacy (and/or capacity to host…) in the Mariposa Main Stage backstage area, every year that we have stage managed that stage. This year’s Festival will be distinguished by his absence.
Rest In Peace
AND . . . THIS SATURDAY ! ! !

PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
On Saturday May 6, I'm doing something I rarely do: a concert under my own name… I’ll be performing both my own original songs AND selections from the songbooks of the many amazing singer-songwriters with whom I have worked during my almost 40 year career (including Lynn Miles, Paul Quarrington, Melwood Cutlery, Isabel Fryszberg, Ian Tamblyn, Collette Savard, Jane Siberry, Ben Sures, and Justin Haynes). I’ll be playing with Roddy Ellias, John Geggie and Justin Orok. First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa is a stunning setting for a spring evening, with great acoustics and the burgeoning trees and Ottawa River as our backdrop. I’ve been there a couple of times now with Sultans of String, which is how this Harmony Concerts Presentation came about. I’m grateful for the opportunity to sing my own songs. (Thanks to Jan Fox and Roddy Ellias for cooking this up…!) And I’m excited to bring this collection to my Ottawa friends and fans.
I began singing songs in earnest in Ottawa in the mid 1980s. Those were the Fat Man Waving, Bec and Rusty, Three Sheets to the Wind, and Black Donnellys days… Following the break up of FMW in 1996, I made the move to Toronto, where I live a busy musical life, collaborating with countless creators and ensembles. Despite my expat status - I can’t believe I left so long ago! - I have managed to maintain and develop multiple relationships with Ottawa musicians and venues. This is something that continues to enrich my life and for which I am eternally grateful. I consider myself very VERY lucky, and I look forward to celebrating the music that makes up this hurly-burly life in my old home town.
